TABLE LAMP IX – SPIRAL HARMONY Lamp is made of senegalese calabash. The pattern was inspired by M.C. Escher’s "Sphere Spirals". It’s two precise charted sphere spirals with orthogonal axis. The white spaces are deeper layer of white wood which allows light to pass through it. The base is finished off with linen string. Diameter of the gourd is 23 cm, and lamp is 36 cm high.
This one is already sold (like all other ones in this moment). Please visit my official website www.calabarte.com. There are all galleries and information You should know (INFO section). In case of further questions contact me by calabarte@gmail.com Thanks!
My apologies, I am somewhat obsessed with the way people finish wood products, and I was wondering if you applied a chemical, wax, or other woodworking finish to protect this piece from decay. For example; many woodworkers use polyurethane or resin to seal the pores in the wood, which gives some protection against liquid or oil contact, and some coloring effects. Others use waxes or nut oils for more easier but often temporary results. I know many people simply don't finish a piece at all, letting time take it's toll, or knowing their medium doesn't need said finishes.
Ok, I understand. So usually I paint my lamps with nitro colorants to wood. I dont know the english name of this but it's normal and quite cheap. After all I put a colourless finish to protect it. I don't use anythings to seal the pores in the wood. So I think I don't have any special technique.
